Angkasa

10:24

Semalam kan, tiba-tiba aku terfikir. Kalau dulu orang nak pergi Eropah sana ambil masa berbulan-bulan, tapi sekarang berjam-jam sahaja.

Berbilion-bilion. Mungkin ada teknologi baru untuk ke angkasa.

Ika asked me a question!!! Excited tak? hehehe. Thanks Ika. The question is, how is it the life of a TESL student?

What can I say is, it is a lot more relaxing compare to PASUM.

I don't know how to explain this precisely but I'll try by describing my timetable during Semester 1.

I know it is cute.

Monday
I'll queue for the bus from 7.15am (The first few months, I started waiting for the bus from 6.45am). After reaching the campus, I sit in the classroom and read a novel. It is kind of boring to wait for the lecturer and because I am a good girl, I will feel guilty if I reach the class later than the lecturer, so I decide to be in the class at least 15 minutes before the class starts.

Class ends at 9am, I head to the library, have some breakfast (usually it is Nasi Lemak) and then enter the library. I am the member of Kelab Pustaka, a club for the bookworms (I know it does sound nerdy, but I am) so I have to do shelving. Shelving is the task that each of the members have to conduct for a period of two hours every week. Shelving tu susun buku la.

Usually I finish it around 11.30am to 12am, then I go wandering around or sit at the novel section to peep for some interesting novels or I choose to read the newspapers. Then, go grab some lunch before performing Zuhur prayer and rush towards the classroom for Grammar Class at 2pm.

Usually for two hours of Grammar class will only take an hour, and for an hour class, it just about 20 minutes. So, the class ends at 3pm, the next class is at 4pm. I hang around, chit chat with friends and then head to another classroom which takes about 5 minutes (if I walk in a fast pace).

Class ends at 5pm. I buy my dinner before getting in the bus, and reach my college around 6pm. It takes about 20 minutes from the campus to my college. My energy has drenched out, and I fall asleep straight away after performing Isya' prayer.

Tuesday
Class starts at 8am everyday. For Tuesday, I buy my breakfast first in front of the campus because the earliest class of the day will take about three hours and the lecturer allow us to eat in the class. Class ends at 11am. I have an hour gap, so this is the time to handle anything official which I need to consult the office but this is rarely happen.

The class ends at 12pm, it is either I choose to stay at the library or go back to the college. What I do when I don't have class? Lepak!

Okay tipu.

There is no suitable place for loitering around, no shopping, no bowling alley and no cinema. Fuhh! At least my money doesn't go to that kind of things that much.

If I go to the library, I will do my assignment, if I go back to the hostel I will sleep or watching some soap opera. The choice is on me, if I am in the mood to finish all the assignment in that current week, I will stay at the library.

We get lots of assignment, especially for the grammar subject.

Wednesday
It is about the same as Tuesday

Thursday
The single period was squeezed into the one hour gap on Wednesday. So I am free for the whole day!!! Usually Thursday is the day when I go out, what I mean by going out is, going to KL or the nearest is Rawang. Well, it is depends on my current savings account but sincerely I don't go out much compare to PASUM's days.

Friday
Class ends at 10am. Go back to the college or stay at the library. Now you can see, how bored it is......

Saturday
Weekend!!!! NO! It is not yet. I will go for a free tanning treatment at 12pm till 2pm on every Saturday. We got OLAHRAGA on sunny day or we just went through a lecture on rainy day.

The only entertainment that we have in this pekan is Pasar Malam on Saturday evening. This is the time for food hunting which is nothing except than the great Ayam Uncle Bob and the lazy me will just ordered any volunteers to buy me food.

Sunday
Sleeping, watching dramas or movies or reading novel. Seriously, I can finish two novels in a day.

The Lifestyle.

Being in a university full of future teachers do make me feel like I really am a future teacher.

Dress Etiquette
We have to wear formal attire or at least semi-formal. Depends on the lecturers too. There are lecturers who are particular about our dressing.

You will not spot any women wearing short pants or short skirts in this campus unless you go into their rooms.

Tak boleh cuci mata
Jarang ditemui jejaka hensem di sini ataupun mungkin aku tak perasan.

Dull pick up line
"Boleh tolong translate tak?"
"Boleh ajar General English tak?"
"Ni mesti pandai speaking."

Duhh. Lame. You guys are lame.

Bad Transportation
It's hard to go out from here. It's hard to get cab here, if you are planning a last minute getaway it will be such a big problem. You need to call for a rental car service, you have to wait for the car, you have to top up the petrol, and lots of problems.

More time for reading
I have lots of time for reading!!!Which I don't get much before. Beside, reading novel is consider as studying too.

No guilty
No guilty of watching movies. Watching movie is consider as studying and revising too, especially for Listening and Speaking subject. Kat PASUM dulu serba salah nak tengok cerita, tutorial banyak tak siap, tak boleh tengok movie.

Mitos
1. Budak TESL semua "speaking" 24 jam. Takkan nak cakap melayu dengan Mat Saleh, terkulat-kulat dia tak faham nanti.

2. Nak pandai English kena tiru British Accent takpun American Accent. SALAH! You need to speak in a standard English. Asalkan semua disebut dengan sebutan yang betul ikut International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) sudah la, tak payah nak cakap pakai hidung macam British, tak payah nak yo man! yo man! whassup! whassup!

3. Nak cukupkan tiga.

3 Easy Steps for Dental Care

21:35

Normally people brush their teeth at least twice everyday. Before going to bed and in the morning, although it is preferable if you brush your teeth every time before performing solat. Because I've read this somewhere,

Abu Hurayrah radiyallahu 'anhu narrates that Rasulullah sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam said:

Was it not for my fear of imposing a difficulty on my Ummah I would have ordered that the

Miswaak be used for every Salaah. (al-Bukhari)

Some people choose to only brush their teeth but as for me, who has little gaps between each of the teeth, brushing does not helping me in taking care of my oral hygiene. So, every time I brush my teeth I have to conduct some more additional steps to ensure that my teeth are clean.

1. Brush my teeth
I brush my teeth in a circling manner either vertically or horizontally but it depends on which tooth; for vertical type (blue), I brush vertically while for horizontal type(red), I brush horizontally.

2. Using dental floss
There are two types of dental floss that are usually found in Malaysia, one which is thread like and another one is with a holder. I prefer the one with holder, where you can find it easily at Watson or Guardian outlets.

I prefer this one

3. Rinse with Listerine (Mouth washer)
I usually pour the liquid till 1/5 of the cap and rinse it straight away without adding water. You can choose either to add some water or not, it depends on you. I prefer Cool Citrus Listerine because every time I rinse my mouth I can taste the citrus, compare to other types which taste weird.

Do you have any comment, dentists out there?

All of the pictures are googled. :)

Adventurous Ani

09:56

So, last week I went to Kuala Terengganu just to meet my friend Ani. Chilling out, while she was on her last day of her semester break, while my semester break had just started.

Most of my friends were not home yet, as other universities examination schedule were quite different from mine, because they started their examination a week later than me.

So, what to do in KT? I had absolutely no idea. Because, I didn't want to shop for any keropok lekor or baju kelawar. Terengganu doesn't offer you shopping heaven but exquisite nature, if you are a nature lover, come here. There are lots of fun to go through!

Because of the nearest town from my house, which is Kota Bahru, Kelantan has no A&W outlet at all, (they shut down all the outlets) so we went to A&W, because I was craving for the root beer float and waffle. The outlet here faces the Batu Burok Beach, and it is a cool place to hang out, as nobody is here. I don't know why people in Pantai Timur don't prefer A&W ?

 photo img003-11_zps6d23a101.jpg
Exactly, this place is most exposed to SONAMU.

 photo img009-9_zpsf1079420.jpg
The waffle that I craved for.

We were clueless, where to go huh? So, I suggested that we go to the Turtle Alley, near Kampung Cina, because last time when I went there, I didn't bring my camera, and the alley was quite cool. The pictures there were quite awesome. (I'm not an artistic person, so for me the pictures are beautiful enough for my eyes)

 photo 2013-01-18img2_zpse62e59cb.jpg

So in here, you will see a strip of pictures which tell you about a story of a girl who went to a Turtle Camp. Basically, they want to increase the awareness of extinction of the turtles because of people are stealing the eggs.

 photo 2013-01-18img3_zpsd65ded60.jpg
The pictures, there are story boards also.

On the way to Ani's house, we were thinking, where should we go this evening? I texted Teacher Fauziah to check her whereabout because at first we wanted to go to her house but then she texted back and told us that she was still at school because the teachers were attending a meeting.

As usual, the crazy me suggested that, how about if we go to the school? The rest was history. We went to our old school. Lots of things had changed, especially the staff room's arrangement.

 photo 2013-01-18img_zps484d84cf.jpg

Mummy Nik (my class teacher), invited us to her new house. So we followed her back home. The last time I saw her children was when I was in fifth former, at that time Aisyah was two years old and Asyraf was just born! Now, look at them, they are growing up! I feel old. hahaha

 photo 2013-01-18img1_zps9004bc4c.jpg

Went to Daddy's house without informing him, and met Najah on our way there but Daddy was not at home. He was on a family vacation :(

 photo img099_zps1a788e5b.jpg
This is the driver, Ani.
Ani just got back from a vacation in Korea. She bought a hanbok, a Korean traditional costume. At that night, I wore the hanbok. The hanbok is really beautiful and loose, suitable to wear to a costume party, hehehe. Ani did also give me a souvenir, a chopstick made of steel which is hard to be found here.

 photo img051_zps5171612f.jpg

 photo img171_zps30be081b.jpg

The next morning, we went out to have a breakfast at Chendering, the Nasi Dagang that I love the most, but sadly the restaurant was closed on Friday. Why Mak Ngah? Why?? The restaurant is Mak Ngah Nasi Dagang, right before a white Mosque.

So, we went to bus station, to check on the ticket, and the ticket was on 12pm, we still have two hours. Another crazy idea popped up, we went visiting Shafiza at Unisza, Gong Badak Campus which took about 20 minutes from the bus station.

Adventurous Ani. hahaha

Chin up

11:46

This post is the consequence of the Drop Me a Bomb post. I got a question from Tira, How to be so confident in front of the crowd of people without your friends of people you know besides you? You are alone. But maybe someone in the crowd know you, maybe.

How to be confident?

1. Have a faith in yourself
You must have a faith that you can do it. Keep thinking positive, don't think about the possibility of having slip of tongues, the possibility of you will go blank, or whatever negative thoughts.

Please feel great of yourself. Don't compare yourself with anyone else. You are beautiful when you feel beautiful. My favourite quote, What makes you beautiful? Confidence.

2. Knowledge
Before you are going to talk about anything, please be prepared. Read any information about the topic and always search for some extra information just for a back up plan.

Sometime, there is always an unfortunate time where we have to give an impromptu speech. This is where the bookworms have the most benefit, because they get lots of information in their brain. As what you can see, the debaters are trained to this kind of event, and what they do? They always read.

3. Make some illusion
No! I'm not teaching you to be a magician. I always keep in mind that the audiences know nothing about what am I going to talk about. So, when I miss some part of the info, I will just ignore it and try to squeeze it  in later on.

4. Amaze yourself
I always think highly of myself, which is a bad habit too. I always believe that  "I'm better than everyone else". It is kind of snobbish, but by being snobbish, that what makes me feel confidence. Unfortunately, I get hurt every time I don't accomplish what I want.

5. Dress nicely
You simply don't have to wear make up or any over-priced dress to make you look nice. Just wear what makes you feel comfortable.

Asked Question : PASUM

07:36

There is a sister ( I think the person who asked me is a girl) asked me a few questions about PASUM. So, I answered them according to what language is being used. So, here they are, mix of English, Bahasa Malaysia and Bahasa Malaysia (Terengganu accent).

1. Why are yous studying TESL now?
I chose TESL because this is what I want. I prefer language rather than science. Okay, at first I do think I might be a doctor, but when I think about it again, I chose medical because it is a trend, everyone wants to be a doctor, besides they got paid a lot too.

Should I tell you how much a HO doctor earns these days? Almost 6K. The basic payment is RM2800, then they get few allowances, hence it becomes RM5000++.

One of the reason why I chose TESL was because, I pity the bright students who can score well in sciences subjects but they cannot further their studies to a much better place just because of their poor English performance, I've been living around these students, so I think it is better for me to help them first, so Malaysia will be producing lots of doctors, engineers, scientists with good English performance.

2. Kat PASUM Kak Fina amik Sains Hayat ke?
Ya. Saya pilih Sains Hayat sebelum Sains Fizikal dan saya ditawarkan Sains Hayat. Sebab apa? Lagi satu, saya tak minat nak dapat gelaran Insinyur.

3. Skoloh menengoh mane? Batch 1993 kan? Straight A spm kan?
Huuuu... Maaf ye adik tapi semua tu tak penting. Maaf sangat-sangat. Saye skoloh kat kampung je. Batch tahun 90-an, spm tu biarlah rahsia. Maaf ye adik.

4. PASUM ni memang first choice ke mase upu dulu? Sebelum masuk tu, Kak Fina dengor cite orang dok yang asasi UM ni susoh pade asasi lain?
PASUM ni second choice. First choice UIA, tapi mungkin sebab dok layok nok masuk UIA, tu dok dapat tu. Sob sob sob.

5. How did you overcome every thoughts before you decided to step in UM? or why did you choose PASUM?
I don't have scary or weird thoughts, because I am ignorant to the hurdles. So, I just went there and waited for the consequences. I chose PASUM after getting two offers which are PASUM and matrix because I think PASUM is much more interesting and it is interesting.

*I met lots of awesome people.

6. Kak Fina biase skor 4 flat dok? Kalau study tu from your opinion lah, macam mane eh? Sebab orang ramai kate, kalau masuk PASUM, rajin rajin rajin then all berehhh. Tapi tu yang takut, if tak cukup rajin.
Dok pernoh dapat 4 Flat pun mase duk kat PASUM tu, tapi orang hok dapat 4 Flat tu berlambok la, macam contohnya budok-budok Sains Hayat ade dalam 600 orang, 200 orang dapat 4Flat.

Pasal study pulok, bergantung pada diri masing-masing, tapi bile duk kat PASUM ni, kalau dok study rase serba saloh sangat. Hari-hari study, kalu tension je tubik gi Mid Valley. hahaha. Hok tubik gi Mid Valley tu dok berape bagus ah, kalu tubik sokmo dok berape molek ah, kalu sekali-sekale tu dakpe ah.

Sek-sek hok dapat 4Flat ni ade banyok jenis. Ade je orang hok hu ha hu ha siang hari, malam study pe mende. Ade jugok orang hok study sokmo. Ade jugok orang hok study siket-siket. Pahtu ade jugok sek-sek hok ponteng kelas tapi study kat bilik nuh.

Ade jugok hok study gile-gile tapi dok dapat 4 Flat pun, semua atas rezeki masing-masing, tapi hok penting kite usaha la dulu.

7. "Sebab kan... my high school senior batch 1993 jugak, tapi yang ni laki, die masuk PASUM.. Then tak boleh nak skor... Sampai lah ke final. Die cakap PASUM payoh dari asasi lain. Adik die pulok, my classmate (laki jugak lah), Mak diorang ni dah tak bagi adik die tu masuk PASUM, sebab takut gitu ah."
Huhuhu.

Adik-adik ni banyok dengar cerita kegagalan je, hok orang lain hok berjaye tu dok dengar pulok. Memang la kalu dok dapat 4Flat dok leh jadi doktor, tapi dok kan nok seme orang jadi doktor, sape nok wak ubat? Sape nok wak kajian sains?

Result saya pun tak lawa sangat kat PASUM tu, satu saya ni seorang yang suka cari keseronokan bila menghadapi tekanan perasaan. Ada ke, tension kena marah dekat lab assistant, keluar pergi main bowling dekat Mid. =.='

Okay banyak betul.

Cut my expenses.

Kalau aku nak rasa yakin, aku pergi jogging, takpun work out. Work out aku kejap je, tak sampai 30 minit pun. Kalau jogging pun biasanya 15 minit dengan kelajuan sederhana, takdelah jauh sangat pun.

Sebenarnya, pemangkin semangat aku untuk turunkan berat badan adalah sebab aku beli e-book Kevin Zahri. Beli pakai duit sendiri, memang rasa semangat la, kalau tak nanti membazir duit RM60. Kalau pakai duit Ibu mungkin lain ceritanya.

Sekarang, aku macam kurang kawal pemakanan. Rasa nak makan, makan je. Jadi bila dah rasa macam terlebih makan tu, aku biasanya amalkan strategi ni:

1. Jangan minum air manis

Aku dah jadi "couch potato".

Mahu mencabar diri sendiri agar faham setiap patah perkataan Bahasa Malaysia.

Kalau rakan-rakan Badariah tu layan mamak, takpe la tapi kalau layan mamak Pelita pun harga dah sama macam makan di KFC. Lepas tu lepak pula, duduk kat kedai kopi, kedai kopi yang air mineral sejuk tu pun dah harga RM8. Okay.

Macam mana nak jadi "friendly"? Bila kita ingin memulakan perhubungan, kita perlu mencari persamaan. Perbualan yang biasa terjadi, "Eh, you baca Percy Jackson? Maknanya you suka Rick Riordan la? OMG! Sama la kita!"

Okay, gedik betul bunyinya tapi sebaik sahaja ada perkataan sama la kita tu, automatik rasa macam dah kenal orang tu bertahun-tahun.

(*Socially awkward) Jadi diri sendiri lagi bagus, kalau kawan-kawan dia yang OKB (Orang Kaya Besar) tu tak nak bertegur sapa, jadi duduk diam sahaja. Tetapi, pada pandangan aku kalau kita sombong melepas pulak nanti, bukan senang nak ada kawan OKB ni. Hahahaha.

Tak tahu nak bagi cadangan apa lagi, sebab nak jadi "friendly" ni sebenarnya kita sendiri kena pupuk personaliti "friendly" dalam diri kita. Jangan duduk masamkan muka sehari suntuk, cubalah senyum sikit bila jumpa orang tapi tak payah la sampai tersengih macam kerang busuk. HEEEEE XD

Dear genie

22:34

So I got the third question for the Drop Me a Bomb post. The question is getting harder and this one is from Yana. Her question is,

What will be your 3 wishes if you ever come across a genie in a bottle?

Fuhhh... I was awestruck for a moment. I read carefully and started to pull all of my imaginative, illogical thinking. Being optimistic somehow makes me forget to dream. So, this is the best that I can do.

Dear Genie,

My first wish is, I wanna have a vacation with all of my best friends.

I have more than 5 best friends. That is a lot for a normal human being. Okay theoretically a person should only have a best friend because "best" is the superlative for good and only one thing/person is accepted. So, I think I should change it, I wanna have a vacation with all of my good friends. It is hard to get everyone in the same place, at the same time. Why? First problem, they are all over around the world. Second problem, we are in different time zone. Third, everyone has different schedule.

So it is kind of impossible for me to meet all of my good friends at the same time and have a vacation with them does seem ridiculous  So dear genie please grant my wish, I just wanna have a vacation in Pulau Redang with all of my good friends. I mean ALL.

Secondly, I wish to have my own private library.

Please imagine a huge room filled by tall, wooden panels lined up the walls up from the floor to the high ceiling plus sliding ladders and most importantly the shelves are packed with books that I love. Each of the books is arranged neatly according to the Dewey Decimal System and what makes it is more interesting is, I am the librarian of my own library! I just cannot trust anyone else to take care of my lovers. Oh no! I'm drooling.

I am not greedy, so this is my last wish : I want to explore every castles in the world

I love fairytales. My childhood dream was to marry a prince but as I am growing up I know it is impossible and I'm not interested with Harry. Okay, that is not the main reason, but I love architecture, medieval architecture to be specific. I would love to explore each of the castles invisibly. "Harry I need your invisibility cloak now!" I want to observe each of the rooms in the castles, the design, the colour combination, the furniture arrangement and the lighting.

But, it will be fun also to wander alone in the invisibility cloak around the castles where the royals are doing their normal routine. I just wanna know how boring  their life are. Except their clothes and food are not boring at all!

So yeah, those are my three wishes. Thanks for the interesting question Yana! I hope I will dream about one of them tonight.

Inner Circle

23:50

I got three questions from an anonymous. This is regarding to my post : Drop Me a Bomb . So, the questions are,

1. How to choose good friends to be in your inner circle?

I don't choose my good friends. They appear out of nowhere and most of them are weird. (I have to be prepared, they might ambush me because of this statement)

It just that, as long as I am comfortable with someone, she can be my good friend. All of my good friends are the people that I can share about my dream, my crush, my achievement, the people that I can hang out, eat good food, watch some movies, shopping and doing everything that usual people do with their friends.

But from what I see, most of my good friends have high self-esteem. Do you need prove? These are some part of our daily conversation.

"Hey. I'm hot."
"I'm looking good."
"(Her name) Comel" - Aminah Comel
"We are cool, that's why they envy us."
"I don't know her, maybe because she is not hot."
"Biasalah, (Her name) kan Ratu Cantik." - Biasalah, Aminah kan Ratu Cantik

(Okay, tak nak tulis banyak-banyak lagi. Takut ada yang jelik.)

2. From your opinion, who influenced you most? family or friends? or both had their shares? why and in what way?

Both of my family and friends influence me.

I usually ask for opinions from my mum because I believe in her. Besides, she is an adult and I'm still a teenager who sometime is irrational.

I'm the only girl in my siblings. My childhood was all  about watching Ultraman, Power Rangers, Masked Rider, Pokemon, hide and seek, tree climbing, playing with the remote controlling car and stuff that boys usually do. So, I kind of brutal at that period of time.

While my friends do influence me in growing up as a girl. My way of speaking, my way of dressing, what I read, what I watch, even what I eat. Because a bigger part of my time is spend with my friends as I was living away from home since I started secondary school.

3. What do you think about people in your inner circle over the past 5 years?

People in my inner circle over the past 5 years are awesome and will always be awesome. I am thankful to be blessed with such good friends. Friends who can accept my angel and devil side. Well, you cannot judge me by just reading this blog because I control what I want to portray myself in here.

Keep Calm and Read a Book

21:57

Referring to the previous post, "Drop me a bomb" I got one question only. Sob sob sob. No one is reading my blog nowadays. Never mind.

So, the question is from Qilah : How to nurture the interest in reading?

In my opinion, reading is something that can't be forced. Anybody who loves reading was born with the bookworm trait. So, that's why you might find a person who can stay up all night just to finish a book although he is super exhausted.

By the way, as an English teacher to be, I do expect this kind of circumstances, students who have no interest in reading. I've been thinking about that and what should I do to instill the nature of seeking for knowledge in my future students.

For me, everyone has their own taste. For example, I can never finish Lord of The Ring, I tried but failed. Call me lame or whatsoever but that type of book is not my cup of tea. So, if I keep reading the book, I might lose my interest in reading.

It is the same as if you force me to read about Botanical thingy. Why I kind of hate Biology during my foundation year? Because there were abundant of  plant in the syllabus. zZZZzzzZZ

Another problem is, don't rely too much to the "best-seller" suggestion. Before this, I heard that Jane Austen is a great author. Indeed she is a great author, but I just could not digest her writing. I read Pride and Prejudice and dozed off. I think, I'm not fit with the classic-type novel.

So, in order to instill the bookworm trait, which is somehow hard, you can try by choosing a genre which is suitable for you. I prefer fantasy-like book, because it is more relaxing for me. There are lots of genre out there; biography, chick-lit, philosophy, classics, crime fiction, horror, romance and lots of more. Pick any of the genre and try to read it, maybe you will find one that is suit for you.

If you are reading an English novel, please stay away from your dictionary. What I mean is, don't stick to your dictionary, just read the whole book in a go. That's why you have to choose a novel which use simple English. There are lots of them. Reading and referring to the dictionary can kill your interest to finish the book. This might lead you to give up but once your English level is getting better you can always option to a different level of  language.

Aftermath

Pagi Khamis yang muram, mula-mula nak sambung tengok drama Korea, biasalah orang baru habis exam tapi roommate nak hantar kawan dia pergi stesen KTM. Aku saja mengendeng nak ikut, lagipun dah biasa dengan kawan-kawan dia.

Sebelum pergi KTM, sempat masuk KFC Drive-Through, sempat tapau breakfast dulu buat berkelah dekat stesen KTM. Tapi mahal-mahal pun banyak, siap buat lunch sekali.

Lepas kawan kami, Vivien naik train kami pun menuju ke kolej. Tiba-tiba, hehehe... Aku pun cakap kat roommate aku, "Nana jom la pergi tasik Proton City."

Sekarang, aku kat rumah dah. Cuti semester baru sahaja bermula.

Active Reading

11:16

I'm trying to study but in the same time the earphones in my ears are blasting RedFM. I do also sprawling on the bed and stare at the book. The book that I suppose to read is Pembangunan Sahsiah. The paper for this subject is tomorrow. A university course, a subject which makes me bored but sometime I do find it is interesting. What a complex person am I.

I suppose to read actively. What is meant by reading actively? Active reading is an activity of reading with  a great concentration with determination to understand the content.

Let me share some tips for conducting an active reading activity. I've been using the tips for my major paper, and it did work because I do think I did well in my previous papers.

In order to read actively:

1. Be in  a quiet place
I am breaking the rule because I am listening to Maroon 5 now. This is totally wrong. Why you need to be in a quiet place? Because you can concentrate better! Go to the library or stay in your room where there is nobody and make sure no television or stereo is switched on.

2. Sit upright
A correct sitting position will produce a slight muscular tension that will help you to concentrate. Sprawling on the bed or nestling in your reclined chair is not advisable because this will help you to doze off into sleep easily.

3. Use a pacer
A pacer can be a pen or your own index finger. Pacing also help your mind to concentrate. The speed is important, don't pace to slow because this will make you feel sleepy and don't pace to fast as you might miss some information.

4. Read non-stop
In absorbing some new knowledge, you have to read for a few times. While reading for the first time, please read non-stop don't go back although you don't understand the content. This is because you are getting the overview of you reading material.

5. Use a pen
Read the reading material again and for the second time use a pen to mark any word that you don't know what is the meaning. Put a star or any sign at any point that you think it is important or maybe you can highlight the main point too. This second time, is the time for you to work out with your reading material.

6. Jot the down the notes
By making notes you will understand more. It is more effective if you do the notes in your own way of writing. Don't use the same sentence as what written in the books, rephrase the sentence, this will determine whether you understand the content or not.

7. Re-read the notes
So, for examination, you just need to read your notes not your big books!

Actually, the reason why I knew these tips was because Active Reading was my group assignment for Reading Course. Wish me all the best for my last paper tomorrow!!
